WELCOME TO MODERN FILMS
We believe in content that addresses pressing social issues of our times
Modern Films is a film production, distribution and event cinema company. We launched in 2017 with the release of Manifesto, starring Cate Blanchett in 13 different roles, in partnership with Tate Modern. On the production side, our Executive Produced I Am Not a Witch won a 2018 BAFTA for Outstanding Debut and has been selected as the UK entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards.
2019 looks forward to another year of strong films on release, including CPH:DOX winner documentary The Raft (directed by Marcus Lindeen) about a trans-Atlantic crossing/group social experiment in the 1970s. Love Sonia featuring Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) and from the producer of Life Of Pi. Sweden’s entry for the Oscars Border (directed by Ali Abbasi) in partnership with the digital platform MUBI, Cannes Competitor, award-winner for Best Screenplay and crowd-pleaser Happy as Lazzaro (directed by Alice Rohrwacher), Rotterdam opener and Sundance’s World Cinema Dramatic Competition Dirty God (directed by Sacha Polak), and more to be announced soon.
