Developed in collaboration with a group of non-professional actors from Kesra, a fig-growing region of Tunisia, Erige Sehiri’s fiction debut, celebrates comradeship and the joys of the everyday. A group of students work in the orchards over the course of a summer, learning to appreciate that picking figs is a task that cannot be rushed. The relaxed pace of their activity allows time to gossip, flirt, debate and quarrel, as only teenagers do. Their dialogue, spoken in local dialect, is spontaneous and relaxed, and we home into it in close-up, moving between the trees and the gentle, repetitive activity that accompanies the conversation.
