Tiger Stripes at Leeds Film Festival

  • Leeds International Film Festival The Headrow Leeds, England, LS1 8TL United Kingdom (map)

"It truly growls in its depiction of the brutal nature of girl friendship and the shock of the menstrual metamorphosis." - Fionnuala Hannigan, Screen International

"This latest addition to the monstrous feminine canon is a supple and engaging film that claws at your heart." - Catherine Bray, Film of the Week

Winner of the Critics’ Week Grand Prize at Cannes, this coming-of-age body horror from debut director Amanda Nell Eu is a hallucinatory dive into puberty and the female body. Set in a Muslim girls' school in Malaysia, rebellious Zaffan is the first to get her period and is ostracised for her changing body. But something stranger is happening, an unbelievable rage consumes her and supernatural beings surround her in the jungle. A brutal depiction of the horrors of being a teenage girl, which is sure to shock as Zaffan transforms into the monster her bullies say she is.
