Vicky Krieps (also appearing in Corsage) is luminous as Hélène, a woman who has received the news we all dread – a terminal diagnosis. The film is a mesmerising and entrancing journey that takes us through each stage of grief and surrender. Hélène’s husband Matthieu (played by Gaspard Ulliel) struggles to come to terms with the distance that grows between them as she prepares herself for the end of her life. The film is made even more poignant with the knowledge of Gaspard Ulliel’s tragic passing, which happened after filming wrapped. It’s a miraculous feat of a film – a still and calm meditation on what it means to be alive, and even more, what it means to let go of being alive. The Hollywood Reporter describes it as “steady and stirring.”
