Winner of the Audience Award at the 2022 BFI London Film Festival, this extraordinary film travels through the heart-breaking depths of addiction, but still radiates with human resilience and, above all, hope.

Lisa Selby, an artist and lecturer, has always documented her life in paint, words, photographs and film, recording the moments of her experience to help her comprehend why her mother, Helen, left her as a baby. Helen was charismatic, articulate, beautfiul and addicted to heroin. After Helen’s death, Lisa begins to get to know the woman she never called Mother through the things she left behind and the memories of people who knew her.

An unconventional storytelling approach gleaned from material collected over a lifetime brings us exceptionally close to Lisa as she navigates the months following Helen’s death and her own relationship to addiction – both first and second-hand.
